Panache Tango Plunge bra review

And to celebrate this iconic bras tenth birthday, I thought it was about time I did a review!

Panache Tango Spirit Plunge.

Product description:

  • Supportive, underwired light silky satin bra in a rich cream finish and decorated with a summer floral burst of complimenting reds, pinks and greens.
  • Comfortable fit with a flattering shape.
  • Matching green bows complete the look.
  • Fully adjustable straps, fastening with two clips at the back.55% Polyester, 34% Nylon, 11% Elastane

My Size: 30G.

Fit: Nothing quite fits as well as the Tango, in my eyes, and I doubt this opinion will change. The 30G fits me like a glove and as a result I’ve always compared other bras to it. Interestingly the Tango – as far a fit goes – is one of those bras that you find a lot of women adore. Often with a bra style it will suit one set of boobs and another not so well. Not with the tango! The cup fits like a sheer one would, but feels more secure than the a standard non-padded cup thanks to the sturdy, layered fabric. Similarly the band is nice and firm, offering a snug without being too tight. If I was being REALLY picky I’d say it was ever so slightly bigger in the back than some bras, but for me it’s the closest to my ‘true’ size. Both the plunge and balconette style fit wonderfully, with both offering fantastic coverage and support. Old faithful it may be, but 100% reliable time after time. And as far as matching bottoms go, they come up ever so slightly large. My behind can fit into a 10 with a little bit of room to spare, which is always nice!

Comfort: Is there a comfier bra out there? I’m not sure there is. With a near-perfect fit, it’s hard to not feel comfortable in this bra. The supportive back band isn’t as restrictive as other brands meaning you can breathe easy but without worrying you’re not being supported. The cut of the cups – even in the plunge – are modest enough to stop any potential slips, but sit wonderfully against your boobs. And the wonderfully soft fabric that’s always used (something I know Panache are very proud of) feels great against skin, which is a nice relief for someone like me who suffers with super sensitive skin. I feel relaxed and safe in my Tango, knowing full well I’m supported with an ideal fit.

Colour: In my picture I’m wearing the Spirit colour way of this bra, and sadly there aren’t that many sizes left over at Brastop. But never fear – we have a range of colours in the classic Austrian leaf print such as cornflower blue, fuchsia and purple (amongst many others). Whatever your choice of colour, the simple but classic design never changes, and a new lick of paint (so to speak) every season is a welcome familiarity. I personally love the Spirit design; it’s something  completely new and the ditsy, adorable floral print works well on a cream background. If you can get your hands on it, it’s a beautiful take on a classic. I do love how with such a wide range of colours available, the Tango is really versatile.

Occasion: The Tango is one of the best all-rounder bras to ever exist. There, I said it! It gives a great shape – smooth but not too moulded – but the fact it’s unpadded means it really works for your shape. The cleavage it creates in both styles is subtle but still there to give you a lifted appearance and the support is second to none. For a long time I compared every bra to my Tango plunge fit-wise, and I still do a lot of the time. Because of this, I find the Tango to be hugely versatile. It gives a great silhouette underneath clothing, but can be worn on a night out as well and no matter what you get up to, the fit and support is nearly always spot on, so there’s no fear of spilling out. In fact, I can’t really think of a time when a Tango can’t be worn…

Price: With prices starting at £9.95 for a Tango (and matching thong or brief from £5.95) this set is an absolute bargain. Whether you choose balconette or plunge (or both!) you can afford to stock up on what I think is an absolute lingerie drawer staple. It seems almost indecent that such a quality bra costs so little!

Well it’s safe to say I adore the Tango, and I can see why ten years on it’s as popular as ever. It’s such a classic set that will be around for years to come – an oldie, but a goodie. There’s a reason it’s the Panache best seller and that’s because of its unrivalled fit and no-nonsense approach to lingerie. It’s simple but still pretty and practical without being boring. A lingerie staple, for sure – happy birthday Tango!
