Reader's tip: check your time of the month before remeasuring! As ever, we're on the case about getting properly measured for a bra - and there's a whole bunch of tricks and tips you can do to make sure your bra is suitable for your bodyshape. Heree's another great suggestion from this month's reader's tip winner on how to make sure you get the correct measurement: During that time of the month, breasts can sometimes swell and alter your true size. If you are bra shopping, try to hold off until later when your size will be more accurate.. Nicole Blondell.Thank-you Nicole - you win a free lingerie set! It's also a good idea to consider the effect of hormones, possible pregnancy and weight loss or gain at different times before checking your bra size. Sometimes, it takes one or two measurements to get it right. Don't forget, if you have a tip or a suggestion, you can either post a comment below or you can fill out our suggestion form (if you fill out the form, you could be in with a chance of winning a free lingerie set!). Dear Chloe: What do I do about my fluctuating bra size? And we're back!I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. I ate far too much turkey and drank too much wine and I'll spend eternity in the gym paying for it. Ah well, never mind - back to business. Let's start with a Dear Chloe letter from Sandra Lee: Dear Chloe,Dear Sandra, thank-you for your letter. This is a tricky one, because everyone's bra size changes naturally over the course of time - sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down. There's all sorts of factors that contribute to it, from hormones, the contraceptive pill, weight loss/gain, pregnancy, exercise and natural growth. In addition to getting remeasured regularly (which is important not only because you change size naturally, but also because bra manufacturing varies from company to company), I would firstly recommend establishing yourself with a brand of bra that you find fits you well and try to stick with it. Of course, this isn't always possible - and you might want to try different styles and colours - but it will generally help you find bras that fit and work for you. The other thing you could try is bra extenders - a quick Google search will find you them at all sorts of lingerie outlets, eBay and various clothing websites. Bra extenders offer you anywhere between 2" and 4" inches of extension to the hook-and-eye fasteners at the back of your bra, providing you with some 'give' if the band is too small across your back. They also come in shorter widths, if you only need 1" or 2" of 'give' - and they're really cheap too, so it's an inexpensive way of modifying the size of a bra without trimming bits off or stitching parts on. The final suggestion is to always buy a quality brand of bra - Fantasie, Freya, Curvy Kate, Lepel, Gossard and Panache are are all good suggestions - the materials tend to be better, less 'firm' and should provide a more comfortable fit in your size - and all are available at our website Brastop.com. I hope this helps. Regards, Chloe. Don't forget, if you have a lingerie-related problem or question, send it to hannah@brastop.com and she'll forward it to me. The best ones get posted on the website - and the star question wins a free bra set from Brastop.com just like Sandra! Labels: bra size, dear chloe, help, letter, measuring, suggestions

Dear Chloe: I spill out of every bra I own, please help! Do you sometimes find that even though you're wearing the correct size of bra, maybe the style of bra just doesn't do the job of holding you in properly?Well, this 'Dear Chloe' letter below from Lisa addresses that very subject, with some advice from me on what she should do to avoid the dreaded 'spillage'... Dear Chloe,Dear Lisa, thank-you for your email. If you're spilling out over the top of your bra, there's a good chance that you could be wearing the wrong cup size, or - you may need to think about trying a more full cup bra. I'm guessing that you possibly prefer balconette or plunge bras, which, if you're quite full in the cup, might cause the kind of spillage you're referring to. Every woman differs from size to size, and while full cup bras don't always suit low cut tops or dresses, there's loads of new styles that you can make work with your outfit. I would recommend any of the Curvy Kate bras on the Brastop website, as they're both stylish and comfortable. The Curvy Kate models go up to a J cup, and prove that you can be very full in the cup and still wear a balconette style of bra, letting you wear a low cut top or dress without showing your bra. Freya bras are also good in balconette styles (and they're among the best quality bras you can buy), and I would personally recommend the Tango II plunge bra from Panache. It's very supportive - loads of curvy girls wear it, including me - and it really is an amazing, comfy and fashionable bra. Kind regards, Chloe. Don't forget, if you have a lingerie-related problem or question, send it to hannah@brastop.com and she'll forward it to me. Reader's tip winner for October: correct size = good posture = smile! Almost every girl I know can testify to the merits of finally trying on a decent, properly-fitting bra. It makes you feel better all round, you look good - and it gives you something to be happy about. Our winner of the Tip of the Month advises just that... Remember that a properly fitted bra will improve your posture and can take pounds off your appearance. A really good bra boosts your confidence so you can flaunt your curves. You'll stand tall, with your shoulders back and down, tummy in, and boobs out! And don't forget to smile. Reader's tip: mix and match the bikinis The summer may be well and truly over, but now is a good time to think about picking up your swimwear for next year. Here's a great tip om how to go about selecting a cool look for the beach when the sun comes back out again... Instead of worrying about looking chic on the beach in designer bikinis, be brave and create your own distinctive style by mixing and matching different bikini bottoms with different bikini tops to be your very own designer. You could mix it up with different colours, patterns and styles, adding a funky sarong and with some super big sunglasses you are ready to hit the beach in style! (Your very own style!). Reader's tip: take care of your straps Here's another great tip from one of our readers on takign care of your bra straps. If you take care of the straps, the straps will take care of your boobs! Wearing and washing a bra can alter the strap lengths, through moving the straps, and through general wear and tear. For that reason it's important to always make time to check and adjust the straps as necessary each time you wear it to make sure you're getting the best shape and support. Bra Angel inventor is a man!![]() Do you remember the Bra Angel repair kit I mentioned a few months ago? Sure you do. Just because it was 1 April that I wrote about it, doesn't mean to say it was a hoax. In fact, I wrote about it again when one of our customers wrote to me asking for help in fixing the underwire on her bra. Well, I discovered today, via this nice BBC News video about the British Invention Show, which featured the person who inveted the Bra Angel, Mr Scott Dutton - yes - a man! Would you believe it? Apparently, Scott came up with the idea when the wire on his wife's bra burst through the seam, and she was going to throw it in the bin. It should be available in high street stores soon, and no girl should be without one in her handbag or underwear drawer - you need never chuck out one of those damaged bras ever again! Reader's suggestions: winners for July and August![]() With me being away on holiday and so many things to catch up on, I totally forgot about our suggestions of the month. So, here's two in a row for you - the winners from July and August: Your Bra can make a very secure place to hide precious items. Tack a little fabric pouch into the bra you usually wear when travelling, and pop your travel money in it! - Brita BevisWell done to both Brita and Cindy for their entries - the prizes are on the way. Labels: brastop, reader tip, suggestions, tips Dear Chloe: my underwire keeps escaping!![]() This is the first of our 'Dear Chloe' letters, that I'll be posting here on the blog regularly. Every month, we'll pick out a star letter that will be eligible to win a free bra set from Brastop.com - the winning letter will be clearly marked as 'Star Letter' at the top. First, up, is Romey: Dear Chloe,Well Romey, the first thing that springs to mind is that even though you've been properly measured, you could still be wearing the wrong size of bra. My first suggestion is to seek a second opinion and get re-measured. Next, I would suggest buying a high-quality make of bra in the correct size. It's often really tempting to purchase a cheap bra to try out your new size, but the inferior stitching, materials and manufacturing process can lead to seams popping and wires poking through. Try a good quality make like Fantasie or Freya, or one of the Curvy Kate range - they're slightly more expensive, but they're worth it (most of the bras I own are Fantasie, Freya, Curvy Kate or Lepel). Finally, if you've spent a lot of money on the bra that's causing you problems, you should pick up a Bra Angel Repair Kit and fix the underwire back into place. Regards, Chloe. Romy's letter will be eligible for the Star Letter of the month and will go into the hat for a chance to win a free bra set from Brastop.com. Don't forget, send your 'Dear Chloe' questions to hannah@brastop.com and she'll forward them on to me! Labels: agony aunt, bras, dear chloe, help, questions, suggestions, tips, underwire

Taking care of your bras explained Kelly Skahan of The Examiner continues her series on undergarments with a look at taking care of your bras.Washing bras is quite possibly one of the areas of underwear that gets the least attention. I know I'm guilty of throwing my bras in the washing with everything else on the pile, taking care only to make sure I'm not washing a white bra with a black top. We seldom give any consideration to how often we wash our bras, how we dry them, what sort of detergent we use or what items to mix them up with. Taking a little more time over how you wash your bras will not only extend their life, but will keep them in good shape and maintain the quality of the materials. Kelly suggests that the first step towards taking care of your bras is not to sleep in them, but I disagree to some extent here. I have a couple of bras that I keep for sleeping in, as it's often more comfortable and helps maintain breast shape - but, broadly-speaking, she's right - wearing a bra to bed, especially an underwired or tight one, can prevent normal lymphatic flow, which isn't good for your breasts, and can distort the shape of your bra. When it comes to laundry, hand washing with a lingerie soap is always best, but it takes time. If you purchase a laundry bag and hook up the back straps of your bra together before putting it inside the bag for washing, it should help present it getting tangled or the wires caught in your washing mashine. As for drying, it's important not to leave your bras dangled radiators or door handles, as I'm often guilty of - it dries the bras out, and causes the material to constrict. Fasten the bra up when drying it, and try to hang it in the normal fashion on a bra hanger while it airs off naturally. Probably the best advice when taking care of your bras is to get two the same - you'll be able to rotate tem more often, and they'll last a lot longer.

Reader's tip winner for May - watch out for the back pain Another great tip from one of our readers, this time a monthly winner from Chloie Parsons about making sure you get a proper band-size when you choose your bra, to avoid the really awful back pain us curvy girls often suffer from."Being a life-long curvy girl, I can attest to the fact that a poorly-fitting bra will create back pain. If your back is becoming painful, do not just blame it on gardening, lifting the baby, or working at the computer all day. If your bra is riding up in the back, then the weight of your breasts is not being supported by the band. The weight is being supported by your back (and neck). A proper fitting bra should eliminate all, or almost all, of that back pain!" Summer solutions - what bra to wear in the sun? Okay girls, summer is here, the sun is shining, and it's time to start thinking about what bra you can wear with your vest top or the right swimming costume to go for before you jet off on holiday.Susan Martin at The Buffalo News (presumably, that's Buffalo, New Jersey) has written a lengthy article on some of the perils of wearing the wrong bra with the wrong summer outfit - but there's some good tips in there. Among her ideas are clear bra straps, skin-toned bras and strapless bras. Personally, I've caught on to the coloured bra gimmick this year - the brighter the colour of bra, the less obtrusive it looks when the straps are showing under a skimpy top. One of the big tips Susan gives is to make sure you give plenty of consideration to the underwear you'll be wearing before you invest in an expensive summer dress; there is nothing worse than getting home from an expensive shopping trip, only to spend frustrated hours in front of the mirror trying on bra after bra that simply will not match the outfit you've bought. And a final summer tip from Susan: Let your deodorant dry completely before putting on your outfit - you don't want white stains all over your nice red flowery dress. Reader's tip - Don't write-off a new bra![]() Well, here's a tip from one of our readers suggesting that you maybe shouldn't write off a new bra too soon... "Remember that some bras take a wear or two to 'settle' in. Don't write off a great bra because it didn't give you quite the right look the first time. I have a fantastic Freya bra that gave me a 'pointy' look the first time I wore it, but now it simply gives me fantastic lift and shape. It's my new favourite bra." from Kelly DolsonDon't forget, if you have a tip or a suggestion, you can either post a comment below or you can fill out our suggestion form (if you fill out the form, you could be in with a chance of winning a free lingerie set of your choice).
