Interview on Lingerie Buyer with Brastop model Laura Butler Do you remember Laura Butler, one of the finalists in our Star in a Bra 2008 competition?She was so popular with our customers, she ended up one of the full-time models for Curvy Kate and still models for Brastop almost two years later. Well, Laura has recently done an interview with Lingerie Buyer, one of the popular trade magazines in the lingerie world (if you're in the business of bras, you'll know Lingerie Buyer). About a year ago, I was sitting in the office at work chatting on the phone to a colleague when I dropped my pad on the floor. So, while still sitting in the chair, I tried to reach down and pick the pad up. However, during the process of reaching for it, my bra strap simply couldn't take the strain - and snapped. Of course, being very generous in the cup department, this was something of a disaster (put simply, my boob fell right out of the cup and my bra went south - I was wearing a blouse, so it was very noticable). I had to quickly end my call, grab my bag and make for the loo. The only thing I could do until I could get out at lunchtime and buy a new bras was to put on my sports bra (which was in my bag, as I had been to the gym in the morning before going to work) - but, of course, it was soaking with sweat from my early morning run on the treadmill! Interview with the 2009 Star in a Bra: Lauren Colfer You've seen the announcement, you've seen the amazing pics, now it's time to meet our winner of the 2009 Star in a Bra competition, the absolutely gorgeous Lauren Colfer.Take it away Lauren: Name: Lauren Colfer Age: 19 Height: 5"7' Vital stats: 32F, waist 27" hips 34" Dress size: 10/12 Brastop: What do you do for a living? Lauren: I'm a full time Psychology student at Uni, but I also work as a receptionist and swimming teacher in my local leisure centre quite a lot. Brastop: Tell us how you got involved in the Star in a Bra competition? Lauren: I remember the competition last year and decided that this year i would give it a go! Brastop: Were you nervous about sending in photos of yourself in your underwear? Had you done anything similar before - for example applied for model competitions or modelled before? Lauren: I was really nervous about the fact that pictures of me in undies were going to be online! But after that, it all got really exciting what with the media coverages on the competition and I loved being a part of it all. This is the first modelling comp I have entered, though I've always wanted to enter others, just never braved it until now! Brastop: Is it an ambition of yours to model full-time? Lauren: I think in a lot of girls, most of us have had a little secret girlie wish to do modelling! I'm still studying though, but if there are opportunities then a bit of juggling is possible! Brastop: How did you feel about stripping down to your underwear in front of a room full of people and posing for photos - surely it must be really nerve-wracking? Lauren: It was a little at first, but then after a while, I warmed up to it and found I was really enjoying it as I am a bit of a poser usually when someone gets a camera out anyway!  Brastop: How was the Star in a Bra photo-shoot managed? Presumably it's not all quick-change from one bra set to another and you get some decent privacy to change? Is it stressfull? Was it fun?Lauren: It was pretty quick with the changes, you had the option to go in a private room to change but I wasn't really too bothered. It was so much fun and I remember thinking how quickly it flew by and really wanted to do it all over again. Brastop:What did your friends and family think of you entering the competition? Lauren: I was a bit nervous about my family!! But luckily all of them saw how great the competition was and were really supportive, even my dad, which was a shocker to everyone I think ! My friends were just as excited as I was. Brastop: How did it feel when you found out you had won? Lauren: I couldn't believe it! I really thought it could have been any one of the other girls as they were all stunners and all had something different about them that stood out. So finding out I won was a total shock as I really thought it could have been any of us. Brastop: The normal trend in the modelling industry is to go with thin models, but Brastop.com's whole ethos is about promoting larger-sized girls. Do you feel you help contribute to this aspect of the industry to promote a positive body image? Lauren: I do, and I hope others feel the same; there are so many girls out there who look at typical skinnier models and compare themselves and think that their bodies aren't "normal" but we are and I think everyone should embrace their shapes, curvy or slender. Brastop: What brands of bra do you normally go for, and why? Lauren: I love the plunges Gossard do, but for fuller cups, I love Masquerade and Panache as they always look pretty. Brastop: Of all the bras you've modelled for Brastop, which ones do you find work best for you? Lauren: I love the Showgirl range for curvy kate and all the colours it came in, I want all of them!! They just fit so comfortably and I love the shape it creates.  Brastop: Of all the photosets you did, which one photo do you feel captures you the best?Lauren: This is a tough one! I really don't know, because each different photo shows a different me, in some I'm laughing my head off and in others I look more serious. I like all the laughy ones, like the pillow fight with Daisy, it was so nice to have spent the day with her and we were genuinely having such a giggle when we did the "pillow fight". Brastop: What about other interests outside of work? What do you do to relax of an evening or weekend? Sports? Movies? TV? Travel? Books? Music? Lauren: If I'm at home, I have a terrible Facebook addiction, but its kept me in touch with so many of my friends who I haven't seen. I love getting all dressed up for a night out with my girls and taking loads of pictures, and I am addicted to Funky House! Brastop: What's your ultimate tip for our readers when it comes to bras? Any advice you can offer on sizing, style, designs or brands? Lauren: The one thing I love about my bra collection is the amount of colour I have... You can wear the nicest top but if your bra doesnt compliment it, then the outfit is incomplete. I have a habit of wearing really bright ones if im wearing plain colours, and have even matched my shoes with bras! Interview with a Star in a Bra Daisy Hill Today we continue our interviews with the top three winners in this year's Star in a Bra Competition.On Monday, we heard from Nadine Kennedy, so today we're going to hear from Daisy Hill, who finished in second place. Take it away, Daisy! Name: Daisy Hill Age:18 Height: 5ft 4in Bra size: 32f Dress size: 10 Brastop: What do you do for a living? Daisy: I am currently a student, I have just finished my a levels at Chatham grammar and will hopefully be attending University in September providing I get the grades expected. Brastop: Tell us how you got involved in the Star in a Bra competition? Daisy: I have always been a BraStop customer and when I received the newsletter about the Star in a Bra competition I was encouraged to enter as it has always been something I have wanted to do. I did not expect to get into the top thirty and was thrilled when I got the phone call telling me i had made it through to the public vote, to me that was exciting enough. I was nervous about it going to the public vote as I didn't know how people would perceive me but once it started, my confidence was built and I got really involved in the competition. Brastop: Were you nervous about sending in photos of yourself in your underwear? Had you done anything similar before - for example applied for model competitions or modelled before? Daisy: When I was told that I had got into the final ten and would get to go and have a professional photo shoot done I was excited but at the same time very nervous as obviously getting into my underwear in front of total strangers would be completely new to me! The idea of curvy models used for Brastop is great! It makes a change to see everyday people with different bodies modeling underwear for buyers with bodies similar to them and after doing some work with Brastop would love to take it further!  Brastop: How was the Star in a Bra photo-shoot managed? Presumably it's not all quick-change from one bra set to another and you get some decent privacy to change? Is it stressfull? Was it fun? Daisy: The first Brastop shoot was a friendly and relaxed environment and I got a chance to meet two of the other girls who had made it in the top ten. I got to have my make up done professionally which I loved as every girl loved feeling pampered. Hannah and the team were very friendly and it wasn't long before I felt relaxed and confident in what I was doing. I thought getting into underwear in front of a group of other people all looking at you would be really nerve racking but being around other girls in the same position and the professional environment of it all I soon forgot about being nervous and began enjoying myself. I loved every minute of it! There was time to both eat and socialize before a quick change into the next set of lingerie. Brastop: What did your friends and family think of you entering the competition? Daisy: When I first entered the competition both my mum and dad were a little unsure of the idea of me posing in my underwear, but after seeing the site and me getting into the top thirty it was not long before they were encouraging all their friends and the rest of the family to vote. My friends were brilliant!! they all voted and encouraged their friends to vote and so on. Brastop: The normal trend in the modelling industry is to go with thin models, but Brastop.com's whole ethos is about promoting larger-sized girls. Do you feel you help contribute to this aspect of the industry to promote a positive body image? Daisy: I feel that being only 18-years-old and being able to do something like this encourages other young people that you can be happy with your curves and body without being 'skinny' and Brastop models send out this positive message.  Brastop: What brands of bra do you normally go for, and why?Daisy: I do wear the Curvy Kate brand from Brastop but my favorite and the underwear I felt most comfortable in was definitely the Showgirl range as its a lot more young and sexy and a bit of fun. Brastop: Of all the photosets you did, which one photo do you feel captures you the best? Daisy: Out of all the photos taken I think the one I felt most comfortable in was one of the ones taken at a recent photoshoot with winner Lauren Colfer of which I'm in a bedroom in a pretty pink set staring into the corner of the room as I feel that was my most natural look. Brastop: What about other interests outside of work? What do you do to relax of an evening or weekend? Sports? Movies? TV? Travel? Books? Music? Daisy: When it comes to outside of Brastop I am just an average teenager who enjoys socializing with my friends and in part time work whilst also preparing for university. I love going out dancing or relaxing inside with my iPod and my favorite songs on repeat on my iPod. I hope other teenagers and adults are encouraged to feel confident in their own skin from seeing curvaceous models on Brastop! Interview with a Star in a Bra - Nadine Kennedy Well folks, I'm finally back after my three long weeks away in Florida, and two weeks of catching up on emails, letters, tax discs, car insurance and a million other things that have held me back from updating the blog.So, let's get straight back into things with an interview featuring one of our top three winners in the 2009 Star in a Bra competition, Nadine Kennedy from Shotts in Lanarkshire. Take it away Nadine... Name: Nadine Kennedy Age: 26 Height: 5ft 10in Vital stats: 34G bra, waist 32" and hips 38". Dress size: 16 Brastop: What do you do for a living? Nadine: I am a Customer Service Officer with South Lanarkshire Council Brastop: Tell us how you got involved in the Star in a Bra competition? Nadine: I have used Brastop for a couple of years now, I saw the competition last year and thought it was a great idea - there were so many beautiful girls who entered. When the competition was being advertised again this year my partner David persuaded me to give it a go. We took some photos of me in my house and sent them in. It was just for a laugh, and I never thought I would get as far as the top 30 let alone third place! Brastop: Were you nervous about sending in photos of yourself in your underwear? Had you done anything similar before - for example have you ever applied for modelling competitions or modelled before? Nadine: God yes, I was terrified! I never did anything like it before so I was really nervous, complete strangers were going to see me in my pants! Brastop: Is it an ambition of yours to model full-time? Nadine: I'd never really given it any serious thought, but if the opportunity came my way again I would jump at it. I had such a good time at the photo shoot in London and would love to do it again. Brastop: Do you have any other ambitions for life? Nadine: Realistically? To see as much of the world as I can, and to learn to be a better cook! Unrealistically? To be on a billboard in Times Square in my bra and pants! Brastop: How did you feel about stripping down to your underwear in front of a room full of people and posing for photos - surely it must be really nerve-wracking? Nadine: Initially I felt sick just thinking about it and I thought I would have been really nervous throughout the shoot, but because everyone was so encouraging and nice I found it really easy to relax and enjoy myself.  Brastop: How was the Star in a Bra photo-shoot managed? Nadine: Presumably it's not all quick-change from one bra set to another and you get some decent privacy to change? Is it stressfull? Was it fun?Nadine: The shoot was professional but relaxed, I think everyone did their part to make the girls feel welcome and at ease. I didn't feel stressed or rushed at all. I had an absolutely fantastic day, and it was great fun. And we even got lunch! Brastop: What did your friends and family think of you entering the competition? Nadine: They thought it was brilliant and were really supportive, they're all very proud. My Grandad took a bit of a ribbing from his mates down the pub, as they had seen me in my two page spread in the paper. I think he was more embarrassed than me, but he was proud as punch. Without all their help and votes I don't think I would have got a far as I did, so I'd like to thank them all for backing me throughout the competition. Brastop: The normal trend in the modelling industry is to go with thin models, but Brastop.com's whole ethos is about promoting larger-sized girls. Do you feel you help contribute to this aspect of the industry to promote a positive body image? Nadine: Yeah I'd like to think I have contributed. I'm not stick thin, I'm a curvy size 16 and I was one of the larger girls in the competition. To get this far has been a massive confidence booster for me, and it shows that you don't have to be built like the side of a fiver to be sexy. I hope that this encourages other curvy girls to feel comfortable with their figure and be proud of their curves. I hate it when you see underwear or clothes modeled by skinny girls, because it makes it really difficult to picture how those clothes would look on me, and I think that Brastop is doing a brilliant job of promoting bigger girls. It's the main reason I started shopping with them, I could see how the bras would look on me as they were modeled by similar sized girls. Brastop: What brands of bra do you normally go for, and why? Nadine: The brands I like most are Masquerade, Panache, Freya, Curvy Kate and Gossard as they all give me a great shape and are really comfortable to wear. Brastop: Of all the bras you've modelled for Brastop, which ones do you find work best for you?  Nadine: I think my favourites were the Curvy Kate Showgirl set and the Curvy Kate Princess Red set, they fit well, gave me a great shape and made me feel sexy! Most larger bras have a million clips at the back and four feet wide straps to hold everything in place, but the Curvy Kate range has been designed with the larger busted woman in mind and it shows. There is only a couple of clips at the back, and the straps are thin but still supportive and comfortable.Brastop: Of all the photosets you did, which one photo do you feel captures you the best? Nadine: Probably the one of me in the teal set. It's my favourite, you can tell I'm at ease. my smile is natural and above all I look good! Alison Webster can work miracles with a camera! Brastop: What about other interests outside of work? What do you do to relax of an evening or weekend? Sports? Movies? TV? Travel? Books? Music? Nadine: I'm a sociable person and love meeting up with friends and family for a laugh. TV's rotten so I try and avoid it wherever I can, I'd much rather immerse myself in good book. I love cooking (or rather, attempting to cook as my partner has just told me to add. God loves a trier!), and having people round for dinner. Brastop: What's your ultimate tip for our readers when it comes to bras? Any advice you can offer on sizing, style, designs or brands? Nadine: My number one tip? Get properly measured! Chloe's back at the Brastop blog Well folks... I go away for a three-week vacation, return with the worst jetlag ever (I was in Florida, if you must know) - and what's only gone and happened?Well, for a start, we have a winner in the Star in a Bra 2009 competition! The absolutely gorgeous Lauren Colfer from Catford in London was the outright and well-deserving winner (not to forget the two fabulous runners-up, Daisy and Nadine). Star in a Bra Interview - Brastop marketing manager Hannah Houston I bet you're just dying to know how our final 10 girls got on at the Star in a Bra makeover shoot last week? Well, before we release all of the photos of the girls looking absolutely amazing, here's a behind-the-scenes interview with Brastop.com's marketing manager Hannah Houston, who helped organise the shoot and brought all the girls together in one place for this year's amazing competition. Brastop blog: This is the second year you've organised the Star in a Bra competition, what lessons did you learn from last year? Hannah: Last year's competition proved to us that there is a need for change in the lingerie industry and a need to feel sexy, gorgeous and love the figure you have. The competition was so well received that we knew we had to do it again this year and make it even bigger. There have been a few changes to the competition to make sure we found even more beautifully curvy girls. We have organised the competition in a slightly different order to give the public more of a chance to vote on a bigger selection of girls. We also took on Alison Webster who works for The Sun newspaper, ASOS and many national magazines as the photographer at the shoot. Alison has a unique way of bringing out the best qualities in each girl. We also wanted the public to know a little bit more about each of the wannabe Bra Stars, so The Sun filmed the whole photoshoot and each girl gave a little speech about why they entered the competition. Applicants this year reached over 1200, with a huge array of shapes, sizes, ethnicities and looks. It has been great to see local press, local radio and even national news picking up on this great competition. Brastop blog: How difficult is it organising the photoshoot for 10 girls? What's involved, and is it stressful? Hannah:We have had some brilliant sponsors this year including Helen-e and Headmasters hair who made the event far less stressful. With their skills, I knew the girls would look wonderful on the day. We also had a far bigger location this year meaning we had space to relax and chat to all the Bra Stars. They also had chance to meet the other finalists and find out a little more about each other. Saying this though I can't deny that I worried before the photoshoot. I really wanted to make the two days as fun as possible and had to be ultra-organised to get everything working like clockwork. Luckily with such a super team helping me out everything ran really smoothly and the results produced by Alison and the team are great. There are a lot of facts to think about though but I think this year was even better than the last!  Brastop blog: Who was the photographer this time, tell us a bit about their previous work and how they put the girls at ease?Hannah: I've worked with Alison on a few shoots before and she photographed the finalists last year. She is so great and has done hundreds of lingerie shoots with curvy girls over the last 15 years, so really knows how to show off their figures well. She talks and jokes with the girls to make them feel comfortable and seems to get the right shots really quickly. It wouldn't have been the same without her around. Brastop blog: How did all the girls do - were they nervous/excited? Hannah: The girls were all fantastic. Each girl was different, looks-wise and personality-wise. Some who were shy took a while to get into the shoot, but then really lapped up the attention. Some were naturals and showed us just how great they could make the lingerie look. They all gave something different to the shoot and all have a great chance to win the Star in a Bra crown. It was great to see the girls being pampered and getting into the shoot. We've had some really positive feedback about how much they enjoyed their time modelling. Brastopblog: Did the girls all get on well? It's a competition, so was there any friendly rivalry going on? Hannah: The atmosphere across the two days was electric and it was brilliant to see everyone getting on so well. As the girls came and went in time slots each girl got to see another couple of girls. Most stayed around for a few hours after to have a few drinks and chat to the other contestants. It was really nice to see. Brastop blog: Did anything go wrong or was there any major hiccups that got in the way of the photoshoot? Hannah: With anything like this we always expect some small hiccups but unbelievably there were no major dramas. We had some traffic problems in the morning and a few fuses blown but nothing too important, luckily! Brastop blog: Were you surprised at how amazing the girls all look when they've had their makeovers? Hannah: To be honest all the girls looked great in their original pictures so I knew hair and make up wasn?t going to be too much of a challenge. Junia, our make up artist noted how gorgeous everyone's skin was, so they needed very little make up ? which was perfect for us. The more natural the better! It was interesting to see the different looks created though and I think each of the girls enjoyed being pampered. Brastop blog: What's the most important message about the Star in a Bra competition - is it about promoting Brastop.com, or do you feel it's more important to promote a positive body image for young women? Hannah: The Star in a Bra competition encourages a healthy figure that naturally curvy girls can relate to. Women of all shapes, sizes and ages entered the competition and the Top 10 are a gorgeous mixture of everything our customer wants to see when shopping for their little luxuries. Brastop specialises in plus-size bras and the average Brastop customer is a size 12/14 with a 34G bust. Our customer doesn't relate to the models used by most lingerie brands, which tend to be either stick-thin, too glamorous and often digitally enhanced. The Star in a Bra competition is a great opportunity for Brastop to find naturally curvy models and for our customers to step into the spotlight and show how gorgeous a fuller figure can look. The response from this year's competition has been overwhelming. Not only from the amazing number of entries we had, but also from the public, who are already eager to vote.  The competition means that our customers will understand which styles will suit their shape. We want to make the lingerie buying experience an enjoyable one. All women should feel happy with the package they have been given. Of course the competition is important to Brastop as we want to build a close relationship with our customers and understanding their needs is key. We want to improve all areas of our business and month on month we seem to be doing this. The Star in a Bra competition helps us promote the brand and our discount prices but also shows our customers that we care. Brastop as a brand want to prove that everyone can look good in lingerie and they don't have to pay a fortune to do so. Star in a Bra 2009 - police officer pulls out of competition There's just one week left to get your votes in for our Star in a Bra competition, so get over to the website now and make your selection - every vote counts!In the meantime, you may have read in the newspapers last week about one of our stunning entrants, Francesca Selley a police officer from Torquay, who was wowing the public with her fantastic curves. At the time, a spokesperson from the Devon and Cornwall Police said serving officers took part in a 'variety' of events. "We've had officers appearing on the Weakest Link and in Mr Gay UK," said the spokesman. "As long as they don't bring the service into disrepute they are free to enter any competitions." Well, it seems that Francesca's superiors have changed their minds and decided that the Star in a Bra competition is unsuitable for female police officers, and due to fears for her career, she has withdrawn from the competition. Hannah Houston, our marketing manager here at Brastop said she was disappointed about Francesca's decision, but understood the pressure she was under. "The police force warned her off. They said she needed to read between the lines and have a careful think about it," said Houston. "They didn't specifically tell her to pull out, but it really worried her. She is very upset. "Francesca had a really good chance of winning. It is a real shame." It is indeed a real shame, Francesca was a gorgeous contestant, and we wish her well with her career in the police.In the meantime, the rest of the girls are waiting to find out if they'll be shortlisted to the final 10 - so get voting now! Peaches or Holly? You decide! Which of these two girls would you rather see modelling Brastop lingerie? The girl on the right is Peaches Geldof - the new Ultimo model and daughter of Mr Band Aid, Bob Geldof - while the girl on the left is one of the recent applicants to our Star in a Bra competition, Holly Stockham, a 32G from Bromsgrove. Peaches looks like someone has been let loose with a magic marker on her torso, while Holly looks the very model of every curvy girl you see in the street (ie. normal, and gorgeous).
