Welcome to the Brastop Blog Becky Mount! Remember last week we published an interview with Becky Mount, one of the co-founders of Busts4Justice?Well, Becky impressed us so much with her enthusiasim for busts, boobs, bras and Brastop, that we asked her to come on board as a blogger here at the Brastop blog - and she jumped at the chance. Can Facebook raise awareness? If you're a regular Facebook user (like me), you probably noticed a trend last week where girls mentioned a single colour and nothing else, much to the bafflement of the boys out there.I think it's safe to say that the secret is out now, and if I'm blogging about it on here, you can be almost certain it was related to underwear. In fact, it was part of a viral campaign (presumably a spontaneous one, but you never can tell), for girls to raise awareness of breast cancer issues by posting the colour of the bra they were wearing. Now more than 30,000 people have joined the 'I updated my Status with my Bra colour' group and the word continues to spread (although, I didn't quite get the point of the subsequent craze of posting up the size of your feet). The importance of such a seemingly trivial and mostly fun trend should never be underestimated - breast cancer affects millions of women worldwide every year, and one of the most important things we can do as people is talk about a subject that was taboo not so long ago - and still is to some people. If that comes from Facebook, or Twitter or any other social networking website, so be it. As long as we're talking about it, people will be aware of it, and the word will spread that more research needs to be carried out to help find treatments and potentially a cure. Review: Curvy Kate Criss-cross bra set in black Product description: a black balcony-style bra from Curvy Kate with contrasting criss-cross detail across the cups. Designed in supportive three-piece cups up to J cup. My size: 32FF bra and 14 briefs. Fit: As I've said in various reviews of the Curvy Kate range before, balconette/balcony bras are always my first choice and this is another bra from the Curvy Kate range that didn't disappoint. It feels much more tightly-constructed than the Portia and Princess bras, with less stretch in the cups. However, it's another perfect fit, both comfortable and snug. After the first try, it felt very like a familiar bra that I had been wearing for years. Materials: as before, this bra is made of good, strong quality polyamide and Elastane. It feels very smooth and the design is very understated. The lower part of the cups are double-lined, but the remainder of the bra is relatively free from excessive details or designs. The top half of the cups features a tapered criss-cross pattern and plain mesh combination. The cups are cut very firmly, with thick wide shoulder straps that boast a decorative edge - which I found slightly irritating against my skin at first, but soon got used to. The remainder of the bra is made of a plain mesh material, with a wide back band featuring three rows of three hooks-and-eye fasteners. Colour: black with a plain criss-cross pattern detail and bow motif to the straps. Comfort: Of all the Curvy Kate bras I've tried so far, this is one of the most comfortable. It's a snug, well-fitting bra you can rely on. Occasion: this bra has suited me both for nights out and everyday wear, but I would say it's more of a general purpose bra. Everyone needs a decent black bra in their drawer that can be replied on for comfort and durability, and this one meets both challenges.  Value: A thoroughly reliable, comfortable bra suited to everyday wear and stylish enough to wear under an outfit for a night out. Price: Bra £17.95, shorts £6.95. Total: £24.90. Brastop featured in Star and More! Magazines If you're anything like me, you probably spend half your income on magazines that end up piled four feet high on your bedside table - from Vogue to Hello!, I'm a soft touch for a feature on Louis Vuitton bags or Prada boots.  Newspaper fashion pull-outs tend to get my attention too - from The Times fashion supplement to those "what to wear this winter" inserts in the Daily Mail. I've got enough of them in my bag to stop a bullet at 30 paces.Well, I was almost agog when I quickly thumbed through a copy of Star Magazine recently, and found a little featurette on bra + thong sets at Brastop, and a really amazing feature on with a girl called Jessie Eleanor who tried out one of our sets recently in More! magazine. The article says Jessie has "fake boobs" (presumably, they mean she's enhanced or has implants), which really doesn't make much difference when it all boils down - as she still needs a decent bra to hold them in place - but she really liked the Ultimo Seduction Polka Dot Bra in Purple Satin with matching thong. I've yet to try the Ultimo range, but they're proving to be hugely popular with our customers (and from the More! article, I'm guessing they're popular with the men too). The Sun's big cup winners (and losers) The Sun has tested out some of the market leading 'big cup' bra sales outlets (including Brastop.com!) and posted the reviews in a photogallery on their website.They asked 24-year-old London website worker Rebecca Brett, a size 34E, to try them out and give her views on size, look, fit and comfort. Rebecca tried out the Curvy Kate Portia bra and commented: "Gorgeous colour but poor fit. It feels big on me but tight at the bit around the ribbon." Unfortunately, every bra suits a different person - and Rebecca is clearly not wearing the right size and should go for something in a smaller back. Also different styles of bra suit different people - so, maybe you shouldn't opt for a slot ribbon style of bra if it doesn't suit your shape? The Curvy Kate Princess is also available, which might have been more suited to her shape and style. I have several of the Curvy Kate bras in my armoury, and I have to say they're among the best bras I've ever owned (and I'm not just saying it because I blog for Brastop - they're genuinely amazing bras). However, it's good to see The Sun giving us a review and not solely focusing on the often over-expensive high street brands. On another note - she did comment on the Wonderbra Embrace, which she said was the prettiest - and Brastop will be announcing stock of that particular bra later today. Dear Chloe: Do Brastop stock corsets, basques, bodies and suspenders? Dear Chloe,Hi Debs, thank-you for your email. We do get the odd body or basque in stock and we stock suspenders from time to time (we currently have the Venus Panache basque in 38F, which might work for you), but at Brastop we are offered products by all of the top suppliers at a discounted price, so we can't always be sure of what will be included in the supply we get. The products are never faulty or seconds but tend to be excess stock when the supplier has purchased too much in that particular season. So, while Brastop may receive the same products as Bravissimo or Debenhams, often it's a few months later (which doesn't seem to really matter with lingerie). Also, often, the department stores don't buy as many items in an F+ cup or larger, as they don't feel they need as many - particularly above a G cup. Brastop's main customers tend to be F cup or above, and we love the fact our suppliers will have lots to offer us. Unfortunately, because of this, the products that are more difficult to get hold of are sports bra, swimwear, basques and shapewear. The suppliers tend not buy very much of these itesm in the first place as they are not big sellers or if they do order then, there usually isn't much excess. So, while we don't generally stock items like basques, bodies or corsets (with suspenders) in F cup sizes or higher, we do get them in from time to time - so, when you see it on the Brastop website - you need to buy it! Just keep an eye out for them in our newsletter, and hopefully you'll spot something you like. Brastop.com shapewear review Over the past few months, I've been trying out all of the selection of shapewear on offer at Brastop.com, including the Beautifull Longleg Shaper, the Beautifull Super Control Brief, the Elbrina Slimshape Lace Brief and the Beautifull Control Shape Thong. I've always been a fan of shapewear, but I tend to prefer a body (or, occasionally a basque) - in fact, one of the most cherished items in my underwear drawer is a Fantasie Ivory Rose body I bought about eight years ago, which is still going strong (albeit with a few loose seams here and there). The big advantage of control underwear is the little boost it gives your figure, in terms of tucking in the tummy a little or giving your bum a rounder look - and it's always a good idea to have a pair of control knickers in your arsenal just in case you had one too many curries the week before a big event like a wedding or a party. Where I find they come in useful is for hiding little bulges when wearing a particularly tight dress or an outfit that clings, like tight trousers or short skirt. I gave all the various control items a couple of outings in recent weeks and months, and here's my view on each:  Beautifull Longleg Shaper: I wore the Beautifull Longleg Shaper (nude colour) to a girls' night out in August, and I have to tell you, nothing - and I mean nothing - can give you curves like a longleg shaper. It tucks in the tummy, rounds off your bum and makes your thighs feel like they belong on Christine Ohuruogu. Despite the flattering shape they gave me, my only major complaints were the prolonged restrictive feeling you get from extended wear, and it's difficult to shake the feeling that you're wearing something you've borrowed from your gran. Verdict: great shape, great value, but don't expect your partner to be pouncing on you with passion. Cost: £12.95 in black, white or nude.  Beautifull Super Control Brief: a few months ago, when I was trying to lose a little bit of weight, these would have been a Godsend. I was carrying a few pounds extra, and embarked on a fitness/diet regime that helped me shed the excess weight and get back to my normal shape and size. So, with that in mind, I probably tried out these control briefs (in white) a little too late. The big benefit of a set like this is to really pull your tummy in and flatten it out - but they shouldn't be viewed as a panacea to losing weight. However, even with the slightest belly-bump at the front, it'll work wonders and flatten you out - and the slightly pleated back neatly tucks your bum into a pert shape. In practical terms, I would say these are the kind of briefs you might wear with a pair of tight trousers or jeans - or possibly with a really slinky dress. Verdict: ideal if you're carrying a little bit extra at the pouch and need to tuck it in a little to get that stretchy minidress on without looking like you're three months pregnant. Price: £12.95 in black, white or nude (I would recommend the white).  Elbrina Slimshape Lace Brief: now these were much more like something I would buy and wear regularly. Of all the various sets I tried out, I think I've worn these the most often. I've worn them to work, on nights out and to a wedding back in early September. They're not too strict on your figure, they feel nice on and they look flattering too. I picked a black pair for the tryout, and they worked well with plenty of black bras in my underwear drawer. My only minor complaint would be if they could be just a little bit shorter at the tummy, then they would be just about perfect. Otherwise, these would make a fine addition to your lingerie drawer - both in terms of giving you a little extra squeeze in the tummy department to pull your shape in, and the fact that they have a very flattering (and appealing) look. Verdict: well worth it, and less like a foundation garment from the 1940s than the others. Price: £12.95 in black, white or nude.  Beautifull Control Shape Thong: personally, I'm not much of a thong kind of girl. If I really, really, really have to wear one, I will - but I generally don't, as a rule. I think I have all but three thongs in my entire underwear drawer, and I think I've maybe used one of them once in the last 12 months. However, I chose to let nothing get in the way of my prejudice towards dental floss and opted to give the Beautifull Control Shape Thong a work-out. I have to say, I didn't feel as negative towards it as I thought I would. In truth, it was really more like a pair of briefs than a thong (and, oddly enough, somewhat resembling a pair of gents briefs more than womens). In terms of control, I didn't really notice a great benefit. Sure, there was some tucking action going on at the front, and (ahem) plenty of space at the back - but I would say these are probably the kind of briefs you would go for if you have abs like a washboard but can't seem to lose that tiny little bit at the front. Verdict: another quality pair of control briefs, only in thong-mode for a bargain price. Worth it if you need that last couple of inches flattened down. The tell-tale signs of a badly-fitting braIt's one of our missions here at Brastop to make sure as many girls as possible are wearing the correct size and shape of bra (you'd never guess, by the way we go on about it though). Homemakers has published a brief article on some of the tell-tale signs that the bra you're wearing is either the wrong size or the wrong shape. Among the giveaways: - the back of your bra is riding up high on your bacj - the centre of your bra lifts away from the breastbone - sagging breasts (this is the one you can see a mile off) - straps diggin into your shoulders and causing weal marks - band pinches in at sides - general discomfort (for example, when you've been wearing your bra for a few hours) - breast spillage (when your boobs push up, over cups) - uni-boob (when your boobs are squished in so tight that two appear as one -- bad sports bras are common culprits) If you spot any of the above, get measured properly, and get yourself a nice-fitting bra.
