Now this may surprise you, but just like the fashion world, there are lingerie trends. OK, so they may not be as edgy as your clothing and not as many people are going to see them, but there are reasons why every six months or so brands put out the gorgeous designs they do. Away from the predictable pastels for spring/summer and festive colours and the year draws to an end, there’s a whole world of micro-trends dictating the most intimate of clothing. However they are subtle and wearable and if anything just make the world of knickers even more exciting than before. And for me, until I save up enough pennies to head over to Paris for the shows, it’s the perfect place to take all these trends into account and see what lies ahead.

Unfortunately, the majority of stock showcased at Moda is intended for autumn/winter 2012 but luckily I’ve combed through all of Brastop to show you ways that you can take these upcoming trends and buy them today. We like to keep you one step ahead of everyone! So, without further ado, here is my round up of those trends and how to update your lingerie drawer months in advance!

One trend that pops up every season is high waisted knickers…tummies rejoice, these babies aren’t going anywhere!

They’re an absolute favourite knicker style of mine, as not only do they give me a better silhouette, but they add a touch of retro glamour to even the most mundane set. In general, there does seem to be a retro revival, with so many brands being influenced by style from decades gone by (particularly the 40′s and 50′s) and I for one love it.

And for me, the best high waisted knickers come courtesy of Brastop favourites Curvy Kate!

No one does high-waisted knickers on Brastop as well as Curvy Kate. Originally they were only available in the silky, jewel-toned Thrill Me sets but now that we sell the cleavage boosting Tempt Me they can be found there too! With stunning detailing and clashing coloours set against classic black, they’re a welcome addition to any lingerie drawer (and of course both sets do come with the classic thong and short alternatives).

Next up is the longline design. For so long I had pined after the ‘bra tops’ sold on the high street and seen at near enough any festival. Turning any bra into an item of clothing, this was underwear as outerwear in its most accessible, playful form, but of course us bigger boobed ladies couldn’t fit into this trend, lest we suffer some atrociously fitting ‘bras’. That all changed last autumn/winter as brands realised that we were absolutely desperate for these adorable additions. So, needless to say they’re still doing the rounds and I am SO happy.

And whilst Brastop have only dipped their toes in the trend, we do have two styles available, courtesy of Cleo and Gossard with their Sadie and Sassy sets.

These garments not only serve as a functional bra, but they can also be worn as an item of clothing. I cannot wait for the warmer weather when I can whack one of these out and frolic through a meadow…OK, maybe my romantic ideals won’t come true, but I sure as hell will finally be enjoying this trend in a few months. I don’t fancy a freezing cold midrift quite yet…

Animal print was also high on the agenda. Now I’m a sucker for leopard print, but these days the classic shades of black and brown have been replaced with muted tones or clashing brights for a thoroughly modern take on the ferocious print. My favourite? The new Gossard Wild Print scores highly with me.

Colour popping once again pops up again and again and again, and in my opinion, it’s one of the easiest ways to update your lingerie drawer. Every colour of the rainbow is featured and the brighter the better. Extra brownie points if you can get a clash.

The Lepel Fiore – one of my favourite bras of all time – comes in an array of colours, showing that the brand can reinvent this classic with every season. I reviewed the violet version recently, one of my favourites yet, but the new coral is next on my wish list.

The jewel tones of the latest Curvy Kate collection are stunning, whilst Pour Moi and Kris Line keep things girly with their many takes on pinks and purples. But the Lucia by Fauve is such a vibrant blue, it’s the winning set for me. So go on, flash those coloured straps and put a spring in your step.

As mentioned before, retro and vintage revival is always a re-occuring theme every single season, and one I adore, so for autumn/winter 2012 it would be no different. The 50′s and 40′s still rule the roost when it comes to shape and silhouette, but this time around there’s a different look…think the roaring 20′s, the Great Gatsby, art deco and France in the 30′s…think delicate lace overlay, rich and traditional colours, fine detailing and the most beautiful embroidery. It was something no brand could escape from but luckily for Brastop customers it’s a trend which has slowly been trickling in. The biggest offender (or should that be saviour)? New Brastop addition, Fauve!

Famed for their attention to detail and making anyone feel like a glamour puss, it’s easy to see where your money goes. The most decadent fabrics with the most intricate detailing, Fauve have nailed this trend like no other.

The Celine in both Crimson and Peppermint are a fine example of this simply Parisian influence, and the Isobel is in a world of it’s own. Fauve is a new addition to the Brastop family, and is considered the older sister in the Eveden family. The same can be said of Masquerade by Panache, and it also showcases some of the best vintage-inspired lingerie out there. The Coco touches on the rich, understated colours for a grown up take on the trend whereas the Lula Mae packs a punch with its bright base colour, whilst still staying true to the vintage ideal.

With so many trends readily available, it’s any wonder we’re not all bankrupt.

What do you think about lingerie trends? A fun way to influence and update your lingerie drawer or something you’re just not fussed about? I personally sit somewhere in the middle. Whilst I don’t necessarily follow them as strictly as I would standard fashion, I think it’s an exciting way to kick start my lingerie love affair. Whatever your stance, let us know!

Well it’s been a while since my last sports bra review, but I’m getting there! I haven’t been exercising as much as I would like as I had to have a minor op on my eye recently (those who know me will know just how much I whined about wearing an eye patch!) but now that we’re finally seeing some warmer weather, I am heading out more. I’ve been alternating my two sports bras so I can really test them properly. You may remember my Freya Active review? Well after wearing and testing that for about a fortnight, I thought I would dedicate all my exercising to my next sports bra. I’ve subjected both bras to the same treatment – plenty of yoga, running and walking/chasing after my dog…here’s what I thought about this one!

Bra: Shock Absorber Max Support in white.

Product description:

This very stylish bra may be worn as an outer or under garment.

Adjustable lightly padded shoulder straps and adjustable double hook/eye back fastener give a perfect fit.

My Size: 30G.

Fit: Now, I’d heard Shock Absorbers come up a little small in the back. Stupidly I disregarded this and thought I’d need a really firm band when it came to exercise, and went ahead and ordered Emy usual size. Big mistake! It really did come up small. It’s OK for exercising, but as with my Freya Active review I did try and wear the bra for a few hours either side to test comfort. If you’re thinking of buying a Shock Absorber, do size up in the back! The cup size, however, did fit well, but in future, to accommodate the bigger back, I’d definitely go for a 32FF. Despite the sizing hiccup, the fit of this is great. Without any wires, I was a little dubious as to how the sizing would work, but it really was fantastic. I was beyond supported yet didn’t feel too restricted, which is often the case with so many sports bras. The back fastening is split into two straps with two sets of hooks each. At first I found it a little fiddly to do up but it it so much better than having to wrestle the top over my head! Plus it leaves you feeling more supported than ever.

Comfort: As previously mentioned, this isn’t the most comfortable bra out there given the tight band. In the cup it’s quite comfortable though and my usual walking/running/yoga was all possible due to the fact that there was no wobble in the boob department. A lot of work goes into Shock Absorber products and it shows – you’d struggle to feel much jiggle in this bad boy. The lovely soft and silky fabrics won’t irritate your skin either and I imagine it a bigger back size this would be one of the comfiest sports bras available. I loved knowing I wouldn’t end up with an aching chest after exercising as well, and there’s certainly no chance of accidents. Not quite sure how the elderly couples that frequent my local park would take seeing a bit of nipple so early on a Sunday morning…

What I also like is that Shock Absorber grade their bras with ‘levels’ to describe the amount of support (see link later on in post) and because this is a 4 – their highest offering – I knew I’d be covered for whatever sport I decided to tackle!

Colour: Once again I have to whinge a little about the colours. Yes I’m being pedantic and ever so girly, but I want a bra to look nice, no matter what it’s purpose! That said, there’s nothing about the crisp white of this bra (or the black it also comes in) and I’m sure it’s hugely practical, but considering this is also designed to be worn as a crop top, I’d maybe want something a little more pleasing on the eye…a bit of coloured piping? A go fast stripe in a flash of colour? Maybe that’s just me though, but what do our readers think about the appearance of sports bras? Do you want them to look a little nicer? Or are you more than happy with a practical approach?

Occasion: I found this sports bra to be one of the most versatile yet, purely because it’s designed to look like a crop top. Not only do you get fantastic support and a great sports bra, but it can be worn as an item of gym clothing without looking like, well, a bra. The silhouette it gives under clothes is smooth enough that it can be worn easily, but for yoga or when the weather warms up, it acts as an item of clothing. I’m not quite brave enough to get my tummy out for all to see at the gym but I like knowing that hopefully, when I have abs of steel, I can get rid of my t-shirt altogether and still stay decent.

Price: This particular Shock Absorber bra is currently £29, so it is a little expensive. Saying that, I do think that any sports bra is worth the investment as the right support is such a necessity. We do sell a whole range of Shock Absorber bras though, starting at £14.95, so there’s something for every budget.

I really love this bra, although I am kicking myself now for not paying attention when it came to sizing! Luckily it’s still wearable, I just won’t be wearing it elsewhere! At first I thought it seemed quite hardcore, for exercise enthusiasts and not someone like me, but I was proved wrong. Despite the technology that I can’t even begin to understand, and the ‘levels’ used with each bra (a grading method brought in to describe the level of support, seen here) I was pleasantly surprised. And by going to a level 4, I knew I’d be covered with all aspects of sport. Granted, if I was a bit more of an exercise enthusiast I may consider buying these bras with different levels for different sports (from yoga through to running) but for now I am more than happy with my bra. A must for any lingerie drawer!

(All prices are subject to change – correct at the time of blog)

We have been busy bees at Brastop, and a lot of our time has been taken up with all the new lines we’ve been adding! And I was personally thrilled to find that we have a whole new range of Panache on offer, hooray!

A personal favourite of mine, Panache are a classic brand that offer some of the best fit and support out there. Panache have stood the test of time and year after year come up not only with new designs, but updated classics that are a staple amongst many a lingerie drawer. What’s not to love?

I squealed in excitement when I saw that we’re now stocking the Tango in two sumptuous new colour ways – cherry and aubergine. Recently I reviewed the Tango, albeit in the limited edition Spirit colour way, mostly as a way to confess my undying love of the set. And lets not forget, this year the Tango celebrates its tenth birthday. It’s managed to reach that milestone and stay as popular as it is for a reason!

Our blogger Kim yesterday named their little sister brand Cleo as the Brastop blog brand of the week, and is it any wonder? The range takes all the best bits of Panache – the fit, support and attention to detail – and puts a young spin on things. And the result? Colour clashing and kitsch prints to die for! Watch this space for a review of the stunning and super-unique Sadie longline.

And if Panache don’t quite do it for you, why not take a look at their sister brands? As previously mentioned, Cleo is the adorable younger sister, full of the brightest colours and the cutest designs, whilst Masquerade add a touch of glamour. The older sister of the three, this lingerie means serious business and can make anyone feel like a temptress. A new favourite of mine, I cannot wait to get more of these seductive sets in my life.

I think there may have to be some new reviews on their way!

Strapless bras are one of the must-have items in any girl’s lingerie drawer, because you never know when you’re going to need one. It’s usually when you finally try on a dress you’ve purchased for a special ...

Over the past few weeks, I’ve selected a white bra as my bra of the week, a Flirtelle bra and a Curvy Kate bra, in addition to a body (and I’ll get on to basques soon), but this week, I thought I would pick out a strapless bra: the Fauve Bethany strapless in ivory.

Strapless bras are one of the must-have items in any girl’s lingerie drawer, because you never know when you’re going to need one. It’s usually when you finally try on a dress you’ve purchased for a special occasion or need to wear something a little bit more revealing or off-the-shoulder, and you usually don’t have a bra that makes the whole outfit work.

I’ve often found myself trying on a gorgeous strapless dress that I want to buy for a wedding, only to change my mind at the last minute, simply because I know I’ll have difficulty finding a strapless or backless bra that will do the job of holding me up, remaining comfortable for about 12 hours and which I won’t spend the entire evening fiddling with or jiggling my boobs back into place (which, while appealing to the men, is not exactly ladylike) or worrying that I’m going to pop out of at a rather embarrassing moment.

Strapless bras are supposed to be specifically designed so that you can wear one without needing the straps to hold everything in place. The cups are usually very generous on a strapless bra, but are often quite firm – sometimes containing a strong elastic to hold you in place or a moulded shape made of a stiff foam-like material.

Personally, I’ve found that Panache tends to makes very good styles of strapless bras, and if you get one in your exact size, they’re usually satisfactory. I own a Panache Ivory bra, and while it’s not exactly my favourite bra in the drawer, it generally does the job. Certainly, I’ve never had any mishaps with it – although, after about 12 hours of constant wear, it’s usually a relief to take it off – and my back usually resembles the map of a Formula One racetrack with the impression marks it leaves behind.

Unfortunately, you’re probably not going to find a strapless bra that does anything for your cleavage – however, one benefit of a good strapless bra is the amazing shape it gives you; Jane Russell hasn’t got a look-in on the smooth curves you’ll end up with. And, more importantly, you can do a bit of dancing without giving yourself a couple of black eyes.

However, one of the things I can tell you about the Fauve Bethany bra is how amazing it feels on. Most of the strapless bras I’ve had in the past have been quite restrictive, tight and fairly plain garments – but the Bethany is a non-padded underwired bra with sheer-mesh lace fabric over a smart ivory base – overlayed with a soft floral embroidered powder blue and white leaf pattern cross the cups, so it’s elegant and sexy.

It has detatchable, adjustable shoulder straps (of course it does), and fastens securely with three hooks at the back, across three columns – I’ve worn it serveral times as a strapless and also with the straps on, and it’s a good enough bra both ways – supportive, comfortable and easy to wear.

I only wish I had got the suspender set to go with it to complete the set…

You can buy the Fauve Bethany strapless bra in ivory at the Brastop website now for just £22.95 and the thong and suspenders are £9.95 and £14.95 respectively.

My Size: 32H. I normally wear a 30G but have gone up to a 32H since pregnancy.

Fit: The straps are thick enough to provide support without looking matronly (probably the type of look a new mum wants to avoid!) and the flattering cup shape and pretty lace detailing make it not only comfortable, but nice to look at, which is a much searched-for yet rarely-found combination.

Lorna Maternity Support Bra by Panache

Colour: Floral print

Comfort: I’m a natural G cup, but I went up to an H cup after having my baby, which means I have never tried a bra without underwire as I feared the support would not be sufficient. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that even without underwire I feel supported and confident wearing this, and it is quite possibly one of the comfiest bras I have ever worn.

Occasion: This is an everyday bra which does exactly what I need it to do without leaving me feeling frumpy. I particularly like the pink bow detail on the cream lace, adding a little bit of girly glamour to an everyday underwear set.

Rating: This bra is feminine and pretty, in addition to being comfortable and supportive – what more can you ask for? I would give it a 5 out of 5.

Bra: Fantasie Gabrielle soft bra

Gabrielle Soft Cup Bra by Fantasie in Black

My Size: 32H

Fit: The straps are relatively slim and pretty for a large cup bra and the lace edging around the cup is a nice detail. The material is very thin which would concern me on a cold day if just worn underneath a thin top – I can imagine that I would want another barrier, but otherwise the bra fits nicely.

Colour: Black

Comfort: This bra is very comfortable, with no underwire, and soft lace which is not scratchy or irritable on your skin.

Occasion: This is an everyday bra which could be worn on almost any occasion. The pretty lace detail on the straps and cups add a little bit of femininity to an otherwise plain and functional bra.

Rating: Comfortable and practical, perfect for everyday use but not one for those romantic occasions! 4/5

Lightly padded satin cups overlaid with black mesh guarantee support and a gorgeous shape. The rich embroidery and intertwined ribbon complete the sophisticated look.

My size: 30HH

Fit: Curvy Kate bras in the 30HH are always a perfect fit for me. The Tease Me bra gives such a gorgeous shape, it makes you feel very sexy. I love this bra so much for this very reason, it’s hard to get a push-up effect in bigger sizes – plunge bras, for example, tend to stop at a G-cup so here’s one for the G+ ladies!

Materials: 84% Polyamide, 16% Elastane

Colour: The bra I have on in the picture is Black/Lemon but this bra comes in many different colours. It is available in Black/Coral now!

Comfort: Although it is slightly padded for the sexy shape, it is still very comfortable. When I was younger (and had smaller boobs!!) I always found that plunge bras or sexy bras were extremely unsupportive but this bra is the complete opposite. I don’t know how they do it, but they do it well! They go right up to J-cup as well, amazing!

Occasion: You can certainly wear this bra as an everyday bra, especially if you want to feel sexy – trust me, it works! I would definitely pick this bra to wear on a night out too.

Briefs: The thong is gorgeous! The pretty frills at the side, as you can see in the photo above, are fabulous! The only problem you might experience is if you were wearing a tight dress you would probably – depending on the material of the dress of course – see the frills through it. I don’t find this a problem because I always wear tights or leggings so it covers the frills, so if you are the same, you won’t have a problem.

Rating: Being my favourite bra EVER, without a doubt, 5 out 5!

The Curvy Kate Showgirl Tease Me in black/lemon is available on Brastop.com for £8.95.

The great thing about being part of the group is that it’s really driven me forward in three tasks (realistic ones!) I set myself:

1) To watch my food intake

2) To reduce the amount of black that I wear

3) To feel fabulous – inside and out!

Watching the food intake will assist in my weight control. And I find that wearing black too much affects my mood. So as a result, adhering to the above two goals will result in me Feeling Fab, and that feeling needs to start from the inside out.

I’m really looking forward to sharing my tips on lingerie, because if like me when you’re wearing well-fitting pretty lingerie it does feel great! There’ll be regular updates on the Brastop website, Facebook, Twitter and AngieGreaves.com.

Being on the focus group also gives me the opportunity to share my views with you on body consciousness, and I think a well fitting bra is just the start! Until next time…

I’m usually known for my love of Curvy Kate, Flirtelle, Fantasie and Freya, but it’s high time I selected a different brand and style from my usual bra picks, which is why my bra of the week this week is the Panache Superbra Tango II balconette bra in cornflower blue.

I do like Panache lingerie, but I don’t have many sets from their range in my massive collection. It’s been a while since I tried this particular bra on, but I decided to give it another go today to offer up my thoughts on it.

As with most top-name brands, the Superbra Tango II balconette is a quality-made bra comprised of a smooth sheer-mesh fabric over a rich cornflower blue base and decorated with smart floral embroidery across the cups. It has fully-underwired cups and standard shoulder straps for support.

However, the first thing you notice about it is that the cups are huge. Well, they are on mine. I’m normally a 30FF, but this one is a 30G – and, compared to my other bras, it looks like a massive harness – albeit a pretty one – which is one of the things that can be off-putting about purchasing a bra like this in a large cup size.

However, don’t let it put you off. For one, it’s an incredibly supportive bra. Becky Mount reviewed the Tango plunge bra a few months ago, and, in her words – nothing fits like a Tango. It’s sturdy, but incredibly comfortable – and a classic design in either the balconette or the plunge. More to the point, it’s really pretty and a stunning colour against your skin.

If I had to find a fault or a criticism, it would be that the back band is incredibly short – and I suspect this would be more so the case of even bigger cup sizes. (Seriously, I can’t overstate this enough – the cups on my 30G are really huge and the underwire is massive too). What this tends to give you is a feeling that the cups extend all the way around your sides, and the back band tends to sit higher up than you would normally expect – but not at the expense of comfort or support. It just takes a little bit of getting used to.

One thing I can say about it is that it feels amazing on, and it looks really beautiful – giving a very “high up” curvy feel to my overall shape and posture. It’s a winner, for sure.

For some, the Tango is a go-to bra – a dependable, reliable and trustworthy bra – and I can see why. It’s the kind of bra women were made for. I might just wheel it out more often in future.

You can buy the Panache Superbra Tango II in cornflower blue at the Brastop website for £14.95, with the briefs and thong just £6.95 each.

Product description:

Supportive balconette bra styled in silky satin fabric over a luxurious black base.

Decorated with a charming floral print, intricately embroidered lace overlay and delicate petal bow detailing for an elegant touch to the classic look.

Uplifting, underwired cups provide flattering curves, gorgeous shape and classic Freya fit.

Adjustable shoulder straps fasten securely with two hooks at the back, across three columns.69% Polyester, 19% Nylon/Polyamide, 12% Elastane/Spandex

My Size: 30G.

Fit: It’s no secret that Freya sizing can be a bit all over the place. Like many brands, there’s fluctuations between styles, but this can be frustrating, to say the least. But to me the Pollyanna is a near-perfect fit. I wear a 30G (as a rule of thumb) but wore a 32FF for the review and whilst I could easily downsize in the back (as would be expected) I doubt I could have gone done to a 28 which I find myself doing on a regular basis with Freya these days. The fit of the back is very true to size (thank God) and once again the fit on the cup is second to none, not that I’d expect anything less from Freya!

Comfort: This bra is so comfortable I could certainly turn my back on a LOT of styles just for it. Recently Freya seemed to have changed their fabric and originally, I didn’t like the look of it – too swimwear, I’d say to friends. Then I tried it on, and all doubt went out the window. It’s so soft I can’t quite get over it, and it fits over curves (and lumps and bumps) perfectly. I have very sensitive skin, and some sheer fabrics can leave me with a slight rash, however I know this will never be the case with the Pollyanna. The fit of the bra is also very comfortable. Quite true to size, the soft fabric isn’t as firm as some of the other styles, but I think this is a plus and doesn’t affect the back size much at all. This is one bra I could wear day in, day out, just based on comfort.

Colour: Whilst not as eye-catching as some of the other Freya designs, the Pollyanna does a great update on a plain black set. The soft black, almost charcoal colour is pepper with a delicate blue/lilac floral design that really makes it very pretty, and it’s set against the dark black lace which gives it an edge (quite literally). Everyone could do with a black set, but the intricate yet simple floral design stops it from blending in with all the other black sets, and looks great against any skin tone.

Occasion: Once again Freya create a bra that can be worn everyday. The comfortable and supportive design and fit means it’s ideal for day-to day activities, however I did find the Pollyanna gave me a little more cleavage than standard Freya bras, something to take into account if you’re a little more modest. I’ve worn this bra countless times and it really is so versatile. Despite the lace it gives a wonderfully smooth silhouette meaning it’s easy to wear under tighter clothing. I’ve even worn this on a night out, and the almost-gothic lace on the top half of the cups actually gave a kitsch peek-a-boo detail when wearing a lower cut top, without revealing everything. I never thought I’d wear this bra so much but it really is a very versatile set.

Price: The Freya Pollyanna in this style is £14.95, with the matching short or thong for £9.95, so whilst it’s one of our slightly more expensive sets here at Brastop, it’s a lot cheaper than elsewhere! The thing I find with Freya is that you know you’re in for good quality, great fit and gorgeous fabrics, and for those reasons alone it’s worth every penny.

I won’t lie – my first (online) impressions of the Pollyanna weren’t great, because I have a terrible habit of over looking just about any set that isn’t in a bright colour. Whilst it may not have been at the top of my wishlist, it’s quickly turned into a reliable, re-occuring set that I wear time and time again. It’s comfortable but still manages to look pretty and what more could you want from a set?

Not too keen on the black design? It also comes in caramel and ivory!

My size: 30HH

Fit: These bras are known for being small-made so I got a 32H in this bra and it fits perfectly. The back band doesn’t have much give so if you quite like a flexible back, this might not be the right bra for you. This bra gives you lots of support along with lots of uplift too, which gives you that all-important gorgeous shape.

Materials: 80% Polyamide, 10% Lycra, 5% Cotton, 5% Polyester

Colour: Ecru. Yes, that’s what it’s called. (Lucky you have the picture!)

Comfort: I found this bra rather comfortable, it felt a tiny bit strange when I first put it on because I’m not used to having a back band that didn’t have much stretch in it. The second time I tried in on, though, I didn’t even notice so that’s good because I thought it was going to bother me. It is a very comfortable bra, however, later on in the evening, while watching TV, I had to take it off because it was digging into my sides and starting to hurt.

Occasion: This is a great bra for every day wear. I went shopping today and didn’t have a single problem all day.

Briefs: I have the thong to match this bra and I was very pleased to see that the material around the sides was quite broad so it didn’t cut into the old love handles and it was also very soft, which I really like.

Value: The Krisline Melody bra in beige is is available on the Brastop website right now for just £12.95.

Bra: Rebecca in black by Bestform.
Review by Curvy Kate model Lauren Colfer.
My size: 30G
When I was asked to review this bra, I was glad to find a basic, functional black bra; something I haven’t purchased in ages.
The first aspect that struck me was that I felt 100% supported; the band is firm, but flexible – so there is no cutting in.
The front of the bra has a lovely rounded shape and the mesh detailing allows for some sexiness, which is nice in a basic bra.
The knickers had the same detailing ...

The knickers had the same detailing as the bra at the sides, and were comfortable, high-leg briefs – not really to my usual tastes – but hey, if I was picking undies for an active, busy day, this set would be it.

The only flaw to the design is the actual shape it gives at a side profile; not pointy at all, but not as rounded as I would prefer. (You can see what I mean in the pictures).

However, I tried out the bra in a couple of situations; on a day out for lunch with the girls under a long bandeau top with leggings and the side-shape wasn’t even noticeable.

The other situation I tried it out was at my usual day job as a swimming teacher, and I now find myself reach for this bra for work, as it still looks fine under a polo shirt – plus the support and soft cotton-fabric is right up my street for my job.

It supports, it’s comfortable, it’s basic – and I think it is a go-to bra for those days when you know you’re going to be out and about and need some guaranteed support.

The Rebecca bra in Black by Bestform is available in 30D to 38HH at the Brastop website for £12.95 and the briefs or the shorts are just £4.95 each.

White bras. We all need them, we’ve all got them. If you’re anything like me, the chances are, a large proportion of the bras in your underwear drawer are made up of one of two colours: black, and white.

Among the top five bras in my collection is the Curvy Kate White Criss Cross Balconette, for a number of good reasons.

I don’t know what the provenance of white bras are, but it probably stems from white being one of the basic cotton material colours (not requiring dyes or any pattern/colour mixes), making them easier to mass produce and standardise.

Whatever their origin, they’re a staple of most women’s wardrobes, suitable for wearing under countless garments and combinations of clothing – plus they work well against most skin tones – and white tends to project an image of cleanliness and purity (although, despite all this, they’re murder to keep clean and get deodorant stains or sweat marks out of).

Anyway, enough of the mumbo-jumbo about the “why” – what about the “how” or the “which”?

Well, the Curvy Kate White Criss Cross Balconette is one of my favourites because it ticks every box for me as far as a bra is concerned: it’s a great-fitting bra, supportive, smooth, provides excellent shape for my body type and it’s a thoroughly reliable go-to bra for just about any occasion or outfit.

I can wear it to work, under a dark top, a light top, with a t-shirt, with a vest top – and it will always get the job done with minimum fuss.

Plus, it’s a Curvy Kate bra – which, as regular readers will know is my number one brand and the company I recommend most to Brastop Blog readers.

We tend to make regular recommendations for bras that are often out-of-the-ordinary – you know, bright colours, nice patterns, sexy styles or something unusual or eye-catching – but, sometimes, we just need a pretty bra that does what you need it to do and can be relied on when you simply haven’t got the time to pick out something to match your mood or style.

The Curvy Kate white Criss Cross bra does all this, and more – and it’s available on the Brastop website right now for just £12.95 with the shorts and the thong just £4.95 each.

Congratulations to Freya Pibworth for winning this month’s Model of the Month competition! You must get this a lot… but your name say’s it all… you were destine to work in lingerie! :-) Freya is another one of our winners whose applied more than once and won so remember there is still a chance because we are only allowed to pick one winner.

So tell us a little more about yourself…

I’m an 18 year old performing arts student from Bedfordshire.

Performing arts… that sounds like a lot of fun and it means you must be pretty confident… I’m yet to find a performing arts student that doesn’t have some confidence lol. What made you decide to enter again?

I’m a show off! Haha joking, I thought to myself when I saw it “well I suppose someone has to win!” So I went for it.

Haha! That’s the fun of it… we have to choose one winner every month! So how did you hear about the Model of the Month competition?

Brastop’s Facebook page brought it to my attention, it took a while for me to realise anyone could enter.

Yes it is open to anyone once they are above a D cup and over 18 then you all qualify! Did you always wanted to model? And if yes did you always wanted to model in lingerie?

I was always interested and done some as a kid, but I didn’t think I had what I takes to be a lingerie model!

That’s what we are trying to change… the perception that you ‘have’ to be a size ’0′ to model lingerie. We are ready to take on the world! lol What were you doing when you found out you won?

I was in the middle of a dance class when I saw my phone flashing, I knew I was waiting to hear back and I got all excited but couldn’t look at my emails until lunch!

Haha… flashing phones can be very distracting you feel the need to answer it if not it takes up most of your time thinking about it lol. How do you feel now knowing you’ve won? Has it sunk in yet?

I feels really weird, I suppose it hasn’t yet. I don’t think it will until I see the pictures.

Not long now for you… fortunately for you, you don’t have much waiting until the photoshoot so you get to jump straight in… hope you’re already for Monday! How did your family react to you winning and having your photos online.

Well my parents were very supportive and proud. I don’t think my big brother knows yet though… Can’t imagine he’d be too impressed, but I’m sure his friends will be! Haha!

I’m sure they will… Are you nervous or looking forward to the professional photoshoot and makeover?

Looking forward to it of course!

It’s going to be fun… I’ve packed up all the sets now and there are lots to be done this time round so it’s going to be a workout getting in and out of them, you’ve been warned lol partly joking there. haha! Are you nervous or looking forward to the overall competition ‘Be our CoverGirl’ Competition?

That I am nervous about, theres so much competition.

I feel sorry for our fans… it’s going to be a tough decision! Did you always celebrate your curves? or was it a struggle to love them from the start? I know being a teenager that’s the time we are the most critical about ourselves.

I’d be lying if I said it was an easy ride, but I’ve got lots of loving friends and family who have always made me feel beautiful whatever. Everyone has been teased about something, and with me it was always the size of my boobs, that was until I was about 15 from then on they’ve been admired! Aspiring to be a dancer isn’t that easy too, its all to common to see a rakey flat chested ballet girl!

They can be a blessing as well as a curse… but I see them more as a blessing! So out of all the prizes you won which one are you mostly looking forward to…

More Brastop undiess! I love them!

I know… I can never get enough of them, soon I would have more underwear than outer wear lol. If you had one wish to change anything about yourself what would it be and why?

Thats too tricky… If we all had a magic wand we’d all look the same and wheres the fun in that?

Very true… we are all unique in our own way… I always wanted to be a tad bit taller but then I say the best things come’s in small packages lol so I’ve learned to love my height. Who is your curvy idol?

My mum…. She’s gorgeous and if I look as good as she does when I’m her age it will be difficult to keep me in clothes.

Awww! I want to see a picture of you’re mum now lol What’s your life’s philosophy or what quote do you live by?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” Its got a lot of person meaning to me, but I don’t think there’s anyone that can’t relate to it.

Good quote! What celebrity would you compare yourself to? Looks wise? Or aspire to be like?

I was once told I was a white beyonce, I wish it were true… But you can’t compare with a booty shake like that!

Hahaha… interesting comparison! Well thanks for answering these questions and I look forward to seeing you at the shoot! Stay tuned for all the photos next week!

If you would like to enter this month’s Model of the Month competition… don’t delay you never know you can be on the front of one of our magazines! Enter here.
